So yesterday afternoon 800miles down 60 to go the van broke down in the heat, it was 40degrees. We pulled over in the hard shoulder and waited an hour for it too cool off and then it started up again. We were thrilled!
500meters later it cut out again. It was still well hot. 5 minutes later the police happened to drive past so they called for us to be towed away and we rang our breakdown cover.
2 hours later at the garage the car sounded fine but it was 7pm and he garage was closing. But between them and the insurance we got put it a sweet B&B down the road with a pool. We were well chuffed. That night there was an uber lightening storm it was wicked.
This morning the van was great but to check the mechanic took it for a spin. 10 minutes in it broke. But this was completely unrelated to yesterday. Double lame! We need new cog things and obviously they are hard to get. So we are here for another night (which is fine by us) and will find out more tomorrow.
If they don’t find the part (most likely) the insurance people will work out some kind of plan.
Here’s hoping there is an old Hiace sitting in a scrapyard nearby.
P.S. Cooperative Bank have been totally awesome at sorting this all out. I thought talking to them would be a painful but they are awesome.
